WHO WE ARE
OUR STORY
In December 2023, a group of faithful Christians from the Anglican Diocese of the Western Gulf Coast began meeting together in a house and prayerfully discerning a call to continue the Diocese’s long-standing mission and ministry in Lafayette, Louisiana. And so, in April 2024, St. Lydia’s Anglican Church was founded as a mission of the Diocese.
Fast forward to the present, and God’s grace has been evident in the life of this church. We are now worshiping at Evangeline Hall, and our people—made up of all ages and stages—are growing in their love and knowledge of God. God be praised!
Art by Ben Lansing of Our Church Speaks.
Named after St. Lydia of Thyatira from Acts 16:11-15, we seek to emulate the hospitality and generosity she gave to the Apostle Paul and his companions in Philippi. We do this patiently—in the power and leading of the Holy Spirit—by inviting, forming, and sending.
We invite others into the life of Christ and His Church through the proclamation of the Gospel in word and deed. They are then formed by the Holy Spirit into the image of Christ by Word, Sacrament, Prayer, and Fellowship. Then they are sent out to do the work of loving and serving God as faithful witnesses in whatever vocation and context God has called them.
OUR VALUES
-
PATIENCE
The Scriptures teach us that it is God who sustains and grows his Church. Through Christ, we strive to be a community that reflects God’s character and to simply be patient collaborators with God in what He is already doing by the power of the Holy Spirit.
-
HOSPITALITY
As God has welcomed us, so are we to welcome others into our church, our lives, and our homes. This starts, of course, at the Holy Table of the Lord on Sundays. But we believe it is also in the sharing of meals, drinking coffee, or playing games around the tables of our homes and communities that the Holy Spirit often works.
-
GENEROSITY
As Christians, we believe that all that we have belongs not to us but to God. That includes the resources of our time, money, and possessions. We strive to be those who give of ourselves with cheerful hearts to our church family and our community.
